Elon Musk, CEO of Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX), has been working on many space-related projects for several years. The Starship launch vehicle platform, which is now under construction at SpaceX’s Boca Chica, Texas headquarters, is one of his most recent initiatives.
The rocket will be used to execute interplanetary and lunar missions, replacing the company’s workhorse Falcon 9 rocket. Furthermore, the new rocket is expected to rapidly expand the company’s Starlink constellation of internet satellites. According to Musk, this will result in it becoming the world’s largest operational rocket.
Musk recently revealed in a series of Tweets that, following the successful landing of a prototype of the platform’s upper stage, SpaceX is currently working on the Starship’s first stage booster, called “Super Heavy.”
